Lydia's first gig

Lydia played her songs for people for the first time as part of a benefit concert for YMAD, which some kids at East put together. It was last minute and a lot of fun. Sorry my videoing isn't better.

There's one more video. Must go to bed. will put it up tomorrow.

A Classic Moment

Lol! So the big thing with Lydia and her friends right now is "car painting" there are special car markers that rub off pretty easily. They get each other's and various boys cars on weekends. This latest one was a little annoying because we'd gotten the car washed a week before. So anyway, so I was driving around around 9ish and I pulled up next to this other car. I caught sight of a possibly cute-ish guy out of the corner of my eye. I stealthily looked backed to take a second look and realized that I was sitting behind a widow that had "bird poop" written all over it. Lol! Talk about attractive. (Luckily the guy wasn't that cute anyway.)

The Book Garden

My favorite used book store--it's in Bountiful

Lol! I loved these signs, I hadn't really noticed them before and they made me laugh. They are very descriptive.

Necessity is the mother of Invention

In this case the Necessity was that of keeping the nocturnal cat from using the porch-side flower box as a restroom. The Invention was that of alternate flower box displays, which my whole family has entered into with enthusiasm. We saw some kids playing with this ship at DI and knew it was destined. We waited until they had abandoned it and snapped it up. When we got it home we fount out it even makes noises!!! Before this was Easter display and there is already a rough plan for the next one.

Text

When I finally posted that last post for some reason it was too late and I was too grumpy to put any words in it. So I guess I'll do an abbreviated version now. The cake was a recipe I've been wanting to try that calls for a significant amount of smushed raspberries. We'd just got raspberries from costco, and since there were only 3 of us at home and 6 boxes of raspberries I figured I try it. It turned out pretty well, if I make it again I think I'd try and tip the flavor balance more towards the chocolate and less towards the raspberries. I'm glad I'd been planning on giving quite a bit away. It was as rich as could be. The batter resembled brownie batter, so I was thinking it would be like a condensed brownie, but upon cutting into it the texture is closer to fudge. The cups are the results of a particularly successful spontaneous DI run...I've stopped telling people how many I bought since they just laugh at me (not without reason). Anyway suffice it to say that I am now the proud owner of 13 nice water gobblets that cost a grand total of $9.75. My mom sent me an email that said I may have found my calling in life buying glassware...not sure if that really counts as a calling in life, but i'll take it. I guess the other way to look at it is that Elen may be prone to a certain degree of excessiveness, but I guess there are worse places to be addicted to than DI.

Last of the Summer Wine Goodness

For you other Summer Wine lovers...some images from the web. I had one of Edie's car on the RR tracks, but it was too small. So here are a couple of Nora Batty's brush in action.

Chartes Revisited

I was disappointed with this first picture when I took it, but it's ended up being one of my very favorites. There are a couple of others from Chartres, some of them may have been up before. I was sitting at work today and fervently wishing I were on a beach. Someone was talking about Hawaii when I came in, maybe that's why, never been to Hawaii. Apparently they went there for a year and worked. Sounded great to me. I've had the travel bug bad the past couple days. Anyway, happy France memories.

Kids are either weird or have less pain receptors in their bodies...maybe both

I had the strangest flashback today. All of the sudden I remembered as a kid how just after my bathwater had drained and the tub was still slick I would scruntch up my knees and somehow spin round and round. I remember my shock one day when I realized I didn't fit anymore. It was very disturbing. Today the idea of spinning round and round in a confined space crunched in a ball is disturbing...talk about awkward and dizzy. Also remember those bars on the playground that you could go sit on and spin round and round. I did that for hours in elementary school. I went back and did it once in jr high or high school. I clambered up on the bar and settled my self with a total lack of finesse on the bar went around once and was like "OW!!!!". And that was the end of that.

Play time at the Park

My friends who moved to Maryland about two months ago came back to Utah for Mother's day and they were in Salt Lake for the day. We went to Cafe Rio and then I tagged along to a play date at the park with some of their friends from their ward. Poor Jade hurt her leg on a slide in Maryland a week or so ago, and they put a cast on her leg. Poor, cute little thing. Lizzie said that she had been running, and then she was reduced to crawling again because of the cast. She had started trying to walk earlier that day. She got going really well at the park. She'd walk for ever, and then I'd get the camera out, and she'd give me a disapproving look and stop. Lizzie also said she'd been started talking a lot more and she was so cute and would say, up, hot, down, and wee.

Happy Birthday Grandpa!!!

Today is my Grandpa Harper's 91st birthday! He is wonderful and I love him.

May 5th, 1918--isn't this the cutest picture you've ever seen?

Too cute for words!

The dapper, handsome one on the left is A. Harper Wallace Jr on a mission in New Zealand. I have it on very good authority that he never wore his hat, and that he was supposed to. He must have worn it at least once for the picture.

Not the best picture quality...but I don't need to tell you which decade it is from. Grandpa is in the middle and my dad is just to the left, the others I believe are my uncles Ashley, Richie, and Charlie...and they are all sitting the same...that hasn't changed.

Me and Lydia and Grandpa last year for Sunday dinner.

Grandpa and Whitney...Christmas?

Another Sunday dinner.

Grandpa, Janet, and Mom at the 91st Birthday dinner.

Happy Birthday Grandpa! I'm sorry I don't have any pictures of him and Grandma Ellen together, or of more family members on my computer. (Some of you may be glad, however.)

Love you tons Grandpa!
