A Dozen Ways To Enjoy Good Heath circa 1937

From my Grandma's "Pupil's Health Report" from when she was 8 and living in NYC in February 1937

Department of Health Board of Education
The City of Ney York

A DOZEN WAYS TO ENJOY GOOD HEALTH

Drink a quart of milk a day (preferably Vitamin D milk)

Be cheerful and happy. Have a hobby.

Play and exercise outdoors in the sunshine.

Use cod-liver oil daily, October to May, or some other good source of Vitamin D, such as Vitamin D milk.

Empty the bowels at a regular time each day, preferably after breakfast.

Stay away from people with coughs and colds and other communicable illnesses.

Rest from one-half to one hour each day. Get at least nine to ten hours sleep each night in a quiet, well-ventilated room.

Be protected against diphtheria, smallpox and other preventable illnesses.

Keep your teeth clean and sound.

Visit your doctor once a year, and your dentist every 6 months.

Have all physical defects corrected or cured.

So...how are you doing health-wise? (Please omit anything to do with your bowels.) Agreements, disagreements? Enjoyable aspects?

This picture is from a forward email with a bunch of crazy pictures of things in China from a year or so (who knows) ago. I saved it in my pictures since it made me laugh so much. When I was flipping through my pictures tonight looking for something to put up. I saw thing and started chuckling. Doesn't life just feel like that sometimes? I'm sure he got to where he was going, though, and so will we all when we have those times.

Spring Snow!

Ironically enough, I really felt spring coming today...even though I woke up to snow on the ground. It melted like a spring snow, a sure sign of warmer weather coming...we just won't think of the 3 weeks of awfulness when the mulberry tree becomes my nemesis. I felt like driving off to some place like this today, but didn't so here's some pics my mom took a couple of years ago.

Bags of Fun

Gone Shopping Be Back Later

President's Day weekend took most of my family to Vegas on a shopping expedition. We all did well. By pure item number I decidedly won. (I leave it to the reader to decide the pros/cons of that win). By amount of currency dispensed let's just say I beat Whitney. And the sun was wonderful.

Well...

I made it through today, and it seems noteworthy enough to justify a public declaration. Here's to the weekend coming! Also it is now one of my ambitions to visit Calico Ghost Town Regional Park. Who knew anywhere that close to Barstow, CA could yield such a delightful destination?
